I haven't posted in quite awhile. Increasing nerve problems with my right hand made it difficult for me to use the computer or do any number of routine activities. I had to have surgery August 8 for my hand and elbow and I'm just getting back to the point where I can type with both hands again.
We're also sitting in the never-ending rain bands of Tropical Storm Fay in central Florida and lost power for a day.
Check back over the next week or two and I will be posting about these two situations.
As a guide for "when the caregiver needs care" I'll tell you how I prepared for surgery to be sure my mother would be cared for. I'll even include some of the recipes that I cooked ahead and froze to make it easy to pop individual portions into the microwave while I wouldn't be able to cook for the two of us.
The tropical storm caused us to evacuate our manufactured home to a hotel for a few days. I'll tell you how we prepared and moved my mom when her arthritis is severe in both her knees and ankles. Once the storm clears our area and the shelters are closed, I will interview the local Red Cross and county EOC about Special Needs shelters. These shelters are opened not only here in hurricane country but nationwide for any kind of natural disaster from floods to wildfires.
Also check out the new website www.trusera.com. This is a "patient-helping-patient" type site where people share personal experiences to help others. I'll be posting frequently in their Caregivers community over the next few months so be sure to check it out.
Come back soon,
Kathy
